All patients receiving radiotherapy are at potential risk of developing some form of radiation dermatitis. Approximately 85% will experience a moderate to severe skin reaction. Of which 10-15% will develop serious problems such as moist desquamation.
Radiation dermatitis is a frequent side-effect of radiotherapy and often complicates the treatment of mammary, prostate, perineum and head and neck carcinomas. Early skin alterations include erythema and desquamation. Later alterations can include changes to pigmentation, blood vessels, hair loss, atrophy, fibrosis and ulcerations.

To preserve the functions of the skin barrier To delay exfoliation of the skin.
To slow lesion evolution (exudation, scabs, necrosis).
